Steve Hommel maintains a busy schedule as a professional musician, composer-arranger and music educator in the Los Angeles area.
As a saxophone soloist, Steve has performed with numerous musical icons, including Wynton Marsalis, Johnny Mathis, Phil Woods, Steve Allen and Anita O’Day.
Steve arranged and performed music for the sound track of the 2014 Emmy nominated film, The Caborca Jew: A Mexican Story. He worked as an arranger for the prestigious Hollywood Diversity awards and wrote orchestral arrangements for Pope John Paul’s historic Candlestick Park address. Steve’s compositions and woodwind performances can be heard on numerous CD’s, videos and television shows.
In addition to his work as a musician and composer, Steve is well known for his contributions to the world of music education. He is the Author-Composer of the ground breaking series for young concert bands entitled Rubber Band Arrangements, and its counterpart for young string ensembles, entitled the Elastic Orchestra. The innovative pedagogical format of these materials, has opened up new musical possibilities for students in over 1000 schools in the US and worldwide.
Steve holds a Bachelors of Music from the University of California in Santa Cruz, and a Masters of Music from USC.
