Steve Hommel is a Los Angeles based Musician, Composer and Educator. He is available for both live performance and recording dates on various woodwind instruments, including Alto, Tenor, Soprano and Baritone Saxophones, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Flute and Piccolo.
In the video below, Steve Hommel and the Musique Sur La Mer Chamber Orchestra perform Steve’s 2015 break-out Composition for Strings and Alto Saxophone entitled Depths. Please Note: From 5:10 to the end, the Saxophone part is entirely improvised.
Steve has performed alongside such musical icons as Wynton Marsalis, Johnny Mathis, Phil Woods, Steve Allen and Anita O’Day. He is regularly featured as a soloist on recordings and live performances in a variety of musical styles, including Jazz, R&B, various Latin and Eastern European genres, as well as Symphonic settings.
In addition, Steve is the Author-Composer of the ground breaking series for young concert bands entitled Rubber Band Arrangements, and its counterpart for young string ensembles, entitled the Elastic Orchestra.
